About Chris
Chris Meharg is the Managing Director of Synergy Search. He graduated with a degree in Law and a Masters in Computer Science before joining leading firm Eversheds in the UK, working in Litigation.
Since 2004 he has been working in Legal recruitment in London (2.5 years) and Sydney (15 + years).
Chris has worked with leading multinational recruitment businesses, managing teams of up to 10 recruiters, as well as in Leading boutique recruitment agencies. He also spent several years working in an Executive Search firm.
Chris has also written a guide for Australian lawyers moving overseas
Chris has worked on every type of recruitment mandate across Legal & Governance and brings a great amount of expertise and market knowledge to any assignment

The legal marketplace in Australia has changed hugely in the last decade, as has the recruitment market that serves it. Gone are the days when the big recruitment brands were best able to service clients and candidates. Their staff have a high turnover, are often in their first recruitment role and have little market knowledge.
Many of the large boutiques have lost a great deal of their long standing staff meaning that your recruitment solutions that used to work, no longer do.
HR driven PSA’s become largely meaningless, as they are rarely negotiated with the legal function front of mind, so you are often stuck with IT or Sales centric generalist agency advertising for your legal positions, they are unable to do anything except place an advert up and hope someone applies.
Direct sourcing for in house roles, is very difficult as internal recruiters almost never have an understanding of the legal department or networks of candidates to approach.
