Our Client is a leading International law firm and has one of the most highly rated Insurance practices in Australia. They are seeking a Senior Associate to manage a caseload of professional indemnity and healthcare matters.

They are looking for a candidate who is a team player, who can develop and maintain excellent client relationships and who is keen to be involved in marketing/business development and client training activities.

Candidates must be comfortable running their own caseload and demonstrate their ability to meet 100% of their hours and billing targets.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to internal and external client publications and supervise and mentor junior members of the team.

Clients include:

Insurers, reinsurers and insurance intermediaries, Private and co-located public hospitals, Various healthcare providers including allied health professionals, nurses, pathologists, physiotherapists, psychologists, radiographers and radiologists in litigated and unlitigated claims and complaints and coronial matters, many of which are confidential, high-profile cases, widely reported in the media

Example matters

  • Medical malpractice claims in a variety of jurisdictions, including highly complex Supreme Court matters which have gained significant media attention.

  • Acting in one of the leading cases in Australia concerning the ownership of medical records between a facility, a patient and a medical practitioner.

  • Acting for an aged care facility for civil claims arising from the murder of two residents by an employee.

  • Acting for an economic research group and its insurer in landmark Federal Court proceedings.

  • Acting for Australian insurers on several high profile s.6 cases before the NSW Supreme Court.

  • Acting for Executive Directors in one of Australia’s highest profile insolvent trading cases

  • Acting for an engineering company in significant property damage and personal injury claims arising from the collapse of a dam, and in the associated WorkCover prosecution.

  • Acting for architects/design managers in relation to significant claims arising from the workplace explosion and the defence of the associated WorkCover prosecution.

Required experience

  • 5-8 years' professional indemnity and healthcare experience

  • Ability to draft, advise and negotiate in relation to both straightforward and complex matters

  • Advisory experience in policy response and complex coverage issues for Insurers

  • Exposure to Business Development and an ability to build strong client relationships

  • Assisting in client tenders

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Methodical and organised approach to file management.
