The role

The work of our client’s Public Sector team supports all areas of government activity through the provision of legal services.  The head of the practice is a multi award winning Partner whose team act for government departments and agencies in a range of dispute resolution and litigation matters (including merits review and judicial review, tort claims and contractual disputes) as well as provide advice on decision making and the management of legal risks, statutory interpretation, regulatory matters, the conduct of compliance and enforcement activities, and in relation to privacy and access to information matters.

The team also does a range of royal commissions, inquiries and inquests - it is the leading royal commission and inquiry practice in Australia having been involved in more than 27 royal commissions, inquiries and inquests in the last 8 years.

Whilst the team does a range of work, it is best known for doing big ticket, complex matters - people who enjoy working in a team on high profile matters will probably be best suited to the team

Key responsibilities

This busy and varied role will see you have the opportunity to work on a broad range of high profile:

  • Dispute resolution and litigation matters, tort claims as well as administrative law matters such as judicial review and merits review;

  • Royal commissions, inquiries and inquests;

  • Represent government departments and agencies as well as private sector organisations; and

  • Develop your client relationship skills through the opportunity to undertake a variety of client secondments.  

Skills & experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 2-6 years' experience as a Lawyer within Government and/or a leading private practice law firm;

  • Proven experience in litigation, dispute resolution and/or administrative law;

  • Proven experience in tort claims, liability law and claims for compensation;

  • Strong academic record of achievement;

  • Proven interest in the government and the political landscape; and

  • Strong work ethic, team orientated and exemplary communication skills.

In addition to this, we are looking for a resilient, self-starter. Someone who will utilise their initiative and is focused on attention to detail and providing outstanding service to their clients.
