An exciting and challenging opportunity exists for a Commercial Lawyer to join our clients business-embedded legal team. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will provide legal advice to a large and complex business in the midst of a turnaround journey. The role is dynamic as it involves supporting all aspects of the business. You will be exposed to various business stakeholders requiring you to provide timely, sound and practical legal advice on a broad array of legal topics.
As an integral member of the broader Legal Services Group, you will work collaboratively with other lawyers sharing your knowledge and insights, and assisting them on a range of legal and non-legal matters.
About the Role
The role involves using your commercial acumen and legal skills to provide strategic and risk-balanced legal advice across the business. You will be co-located with the business teams and be required to develop an understanding of our business.
Your responsibilities include:
· drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, including procurement supply and services agreements, leases and retail supply agreements;
· managing and advising on commercial disputes and regulatory complaints;
· coordinating with other internal and external legal professionals on a range of legal advice for the business, including IP, privacy and data, and competition and consumer law matters;
· advising on legal aspects of strategic initiatives;
· assisting with advising on legal and compliance aspects of our international operations;
· advising on commercial engagement with trade suppliers;
· advising on point of sale, promotional and marketing materials; and
· assisting with training for the business on legal developments and systems.
About you
· Bachelor of Laws and a minimum 5 years PQE with a well regarded law firm. In house experience will be highly regarded;
· current Australian practising certificate;
· able to prioritise competing demands and stakeholder expectations whilst managing a large volume of diverse files;
· self-sufficient and self-motivated with the confidence to work independently;
· service-oriented with the ability to build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders using balanced insights and impactful communication to influence decisions and actions;
· superior negotiation skills;
· strong analytical skills with the ability to implement legal strategies in a commercial context;
· able to anticipate and respond to changes in an effective way within a highly dynamic environment in a business in the midst of a turnaround journey;
· a resilient and collaborative professional who is comfortable dealing with ambiguity; and
· able to identify and solve problems and make the complex simple for internal stakeholders at all levels by framing information and advising in a clear and concise way.
