The Opportunity

The primary responsibility of this role will be to provide legal and contractual advice across a diverse range of sectors including, rail, road, tunnelling, PPPs, alliances and social infrastructure.

You will be accountable for:

  • Reviewing and negotiating a variety of contracts, including Project deeds, D&C contracts, tender teaming deeds, consortium and joint venture agreements, alliance agreements, consultancy and services contracts, works contracts, plant hire contracts, and confidentiality agreements

  • Identifying key project risks and preparing commercially focused solutions to manage and mitigate risks with the tender teams

  • Advising on and reviewing PCGs, Bonds and other security documents;

  • Developing and assisting with the negotiations of subcontracts for use by project teams;

  • Managing and providing instructions to external lawyers

  • Providing advice and guidance to project teams on issues arising throughout the full life cycle of projects

  • Advising and assisting tender and project teams to obtain relevant corporate approvals in accordance with corporate procedures

  • Providing training to project and commercial teams on contract law and updates of applicable legislation with which they must comply

Candidate Requirements:

  • Practicing lawyer with 3-7 years' experience ideally made up of private practice and in-house experience

  • Qualified to practice as a solicitor in New South Wales or other Australian jurisdiction - holding (or entitled to hold) current practicing certificate

  • Excellent communication skills and legal drafting skills

  • Verbal reasoning skills - ability to interpret the precise meaning of written documents such as contracts, legislation, case decisions

  • Risk assessment and risk mitigation skills - ability to identify risks/issues and offer practical commercially appropriate solutions to manage/ mitigate risks

  • Negotiation and Influencing skills
