Property, Projects and Corporate Transactions

Our Client is a group of Privately held companies with assets worth several $bn. Their three main businesses involve Major Property Development - Residential, Commercial, Retail and Office. A separate business with significant land holdings, and a Private Investment Company.
They are looking for an experienced Head of Legal to sit as part of the Senior Executive team and to provide legal advice across the different businesses but predominantly focused on Real Estate Development Projects, Corporate Advice and Commercial Agreements.
Using your background in commercial property and corporate legal work, you will enjoy a portfolio of current property development projects, and exposure to a variety of complex and interesting matters, including (without limitation):
Providing accurate, relevant and timely advice on a variety of legal topics that relate to our diverse business across; Property development, planning & approvals, Corporate transactions, Risk Management and Corporate Governance}
Project manage all legal aspects of the businesses, including new projects and initiatives;
Advice on property transactions and property developments;
Advice on legal aspects of complex property matters in the commercial and retail property spaces;
Advice on commercial / retail leases;
Streamlining and automation of transactions related to the company’s portfolio;
Reporting of legal transactions and matters;
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating various commercial contracts and agreements;
Providing high quality, strategic and commercial focused legal and governance advice for our business, business partners, including effectively managing our external legal services providers;
Establish effective relationships with business partners and peers to understand their business drivers and strategic priorities;
Effectively manage historical Joint Venture arrangements to ensure their commercial success and the protection of the interests of the business
Monitoring legislative / regulatory changes and the provision of advice to proactively identify issues that may impact our business;
Providing accurate, relevant and timely advice on risk and risk management;
Assist with the development of process and procedures to identify and manage risk and design and deliver legal and compliance training to the business
Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations that apply to our business;
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with senior members of our business.
It is anticipated that the role would also involve exposure to other aspects of the day-to-day operations of the business, including development applications and approvals, negotiation with our project consultants, builders, tenants, and financiers.
This will be a great role for any candidate keen to build an internal Legal function of a large and complex business as part of the continued corporatisation process of the business.
You will also have real involvement in the further development of the Corporate Governance frameworks, policy and structures.
The Ideal Candidate
8-15 + PQE years in Property & Corporate Law from a leading law firm or large Corporate
Experience working for both Private Companies and Public Company clients
A strong interest in Corporate Governance / Risk Management
Proven client / stakeholder management skills
Experience working with Government on Property Developments a nice to have
Both Full Time and Part Time Candidates considered (min 3 days p.w.)
Location - this role is based in Western Sydney and whilst some flexi working options are available - the candidate will need to work from the offices at least 60% of the time
