Insightful and experienced senior front-end construction lawyer with 12+ years PQE to join the in-house legal team of one of the largest international construction and civil engineering groups.
About our client
Our Client is a global construction group working on some of the world’s most ambitious projects across the building, civil and energy & services markets. Active in over 50 countries and with more than 50,000 staff worldwide. Our client is focused on growth in Australia and this role reflects a need for an additional senior lawyer to reinforce the Legal team’s capacity
The Australian Legal team work across four distinct business lines:
Delivering renewables and large infrastructure projects including the $6bn Melbourne Metro tunnel and station package and $3.5bn WestConnex M4-M5 Link projects;
2. Delivering projects such as Metro stations, large scale data centres, health facilities, education and
community infrastructure projects;
3. Property development of large scale commercial real estate such as university housing and
commercial property opportunities, both government and private; and
4. An engineering business that designs and builds precast bridge segments and performs bridge
repair and strengthening on major civil infrastructure.
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for commercially astute, energetic and hands on construction lawyer to join our Australian head office team. We also have a remote working policy which permits routine remote working.
Reporting to our General Counsel and working with an in-house team of 4 experienced lawyers, you will provide legal support to our commercial teams across the various businesses operating across Australia. Your role will involve mostly ‘front end’ legal work across a range of major civil, building and renewable energy projects including tender reviews and contract negotiations of a range of values. You will also be required to support health and safety, regulatory, corporate and compliance activities as they arise and support the live projects as issues arise in delivery.
Your professional and personal qualities will ideally include:
Relevant front end construction experience in the Australian market, with relevant admissions or eligibility for admission
An ability to understand the bigger picture and to prioritise multiple tasks arising across multiple business lines and provide pragmatic and timely legal advice within a complex commercial and operational setting
Demonstrable experience in major project procurement legal advisory project advice
Willingness to mentor and supervise in a collegiate manner
An ability to think and communicate calmly and rationally in a fast-paced environment
Strong academics and quality training (either in private practice or in house)
Clear and persuasive written and spoken communication skills
Negotiation and drafting skills
An understanding of issues relevant to construction, including construction and engineering processes, WH&S, insurances
Familiarity with building, infrastructure and renewable energy markets in Australia (property experience optional)
A genuine technical and intellectual curiosity
Alignment with our corporate commitments to health & safety, innovation and quality
Excellent salary circa $250-300k (inclusive of Super) based on experience
plus performance related bonus
Whilst we’re looking to fill a full time role, part time will be considered for the right candidate.
