We currently have an opportunity for an experienced lawyer 2-6 PQE to join our clients market leading corporate insurance practice.

You will work under one of the top rated Insurance Partners in the country, advising local and international clients on all aspects of Corporate Insurance work.

The ideal candidate will come either from a well recognised Corporate Insurance practice, or from one of the following three backgrounds;

Insurance Disputes - With a strong knowledge of he insurance sector and markets and a desire to learn and develop their Advisory and Transactional skillset

Corporate M&A - with exposure to transactions involving Insurance companies and portfolios

Regulatory Investigations - with exposure to Insurers and Insurance products

Experience of Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act, The Insurance Contracts Act and the Commonwealth Insurance Contracts Act will be viewed very favourably.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an Insurance Disputes lawyer to diversify their practice to Advisory and Transactional work, or a Transactional lawyer to have a more varied practice instead of back to back large deals all the time . The Partner and the Special Counsel’s in the team are prepared to invest the time in training and developing a lawyer from any of the above backgrounds into a top Corporate Insurance lawyer.

About the role

You will work across a broad range of corporate insurance matters which might include:

  • acting for vendors and purchasers in acquisitions and mergers of insurance companies, and in respect of court approved business transfer schemes;

  • advising on corporate governance, regulatory and compliance issues (including international regulatory issues like sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption and modern slavery);

  • liaising with regulators such as APRA, ASIC and the ACCC;

  • involvement in regulatory investigations;

  • conducting complex insurance and reinsurance disputes, including coverage;

The nature and size of the team will mean that you will be heavily involved in all aspects of matters. Within the supportive environment, this allows you the autonomy and development opportunity to drive and make a significant contribution to the matter outcome.

This is not a high volume insurance practice, but rather a team with a very highly regarded skillset relied on by top local and international Corporates to give advice on market leading transactions, disputes and investigations.

It is common for specialist Insurance work to be referred to this team from leading Magic Circle and US law firms.

Key skills and experience

We're looking for an experienced lawyer, with 2 - 6 years' experience, who enjoys working as part of dynamic and collaborative team.

  • An expert understanding of the financial services/insurance sector is essential.

  • Strong academic credentials, self-driven with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities effectively.

  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work independently.
