Our client is a top tier law firm with a Band 1 rated Corporate practice. As part of the growth of the Tax team they have recently brought across a senior Partner to the team with 30 years experience in top tier law firms and Big 4 Accountancy firms. They have a particular expertise in advising on large scale M&A transactions, with emphasis on advisory engagements in the property, funds management, banking and finance and infrastructure sectors, together with advice to private equity investors.
In this role you will undertake a range of corporate tax work that supports national and international clients on complex commercial transactions.
Typical responsibilities include:
Advising clients on tax implications of transactions and investments across our corporate, funds, energy and resources and property clients.
Negotiating with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) when required.
You may be advising clients on a range of corporate tax law from corporate reorganisations, trusts, initial public offerings, secondary offerings, spin-offs, joint ventures, employee share schemes and executive remuneration, through to partnerships.
While your focus will be on corporate-related work, you will form part of a broad tax offering spanning the Corporate, Finance and Disputes practice groups, and will work closely with your tax colleagues in Australia and internationally.
The role will not encompass tax compliance work.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Have 4 years or more experience working on a range of corporate tax matters from the international tax, M&A or corporate tax areas of a top-tier or mid-tier private practice, top-tier accounting firm or large corporate.
An excellent academic record, ideally including a Masters in Taxation, and a high level of attention to detail.
Proven experience in successfully supervising and mentoring junior solicitors.
A proactive approach and desire to be an integral member of, and contributor to, our leading and supportive team.
An ability to work to tight timeframes, collaboratively and, at times, autonomously.
A curiosity about clients, and corporate and commercial tax law and transactions, and the desire to continue to learn and develop strong client relationships.
