The Sydney office are searching for an experienced mid-level Associate to Senior Associate to join their Environment and Planning practice. This unique and exciting opportunity will allow you to work alongside specialist partners across environment and planning, climate change as well as investigations and regulatory response.

About the role
This is a growth opportunity for the team as they are expanding their environment and planning capability within Australia. The practice covers the broad range of environment and planning issues, providing advice and acting in litigation, in the context of a wide range of activities and development,
project and infrastructure development across Australia, environmental assessment, approvals and licences;
operational and compliance issues (cultural heritage, threatened species, pollution, contamination, waste management);
incident response/risk management, dealing with regulators, acting in regulatory and enforcement actions and prosecutions;
risk management strategies, policies, procedures and training for environment and planning legal compliance.
The practice covers development and project approvals and environmental assessment for residential, commercial and industrial development and a wide range of infrastructure projects, including advising on issues such as cultural and built heritage, native vegetation, threatened species, bushfire, water, waste, contaminated land and climate change. They advise clients on a wide range of issues concerning the use and development of land under relevant state and Commonwealth environment and planning legislation.
The practice also covers compliance, responses to environmental incidents and clean up notices and EPA/regulator investigations. The team regularly advises on the management of obligations and risks associated with contaminated land, waste, climate change and environmental due diligence and audits and licence requirements and compliance.
The team is in need of an experienced lawyer who shows initiative, is capable of running matters, with the level of support required and is keen to be part of expanding the local and global business. The successful applicant will have a strong client and commercial focus, good interpersonal skills and the ability and enthusiasm to work well in and with a team.
There is also the opportunity to work with lawyers and partners in their international network.
Skills and experience
We are seeking an Associate level Lawyer/ Senior Associate level lawyer with 3-6+ years post qualification experience in general environment/ planning advice and litigation, pollution/ contamination issues, regulatory investigations and incident response. You will be able to demonstrate that you maintained strong performance throughout your career and are committed to further developing your career with us.
