Great opportunity for a construction/commercial lawyer with 6+ years PQE to join the in-house legal team of one of the largest international construction and civil engineering groups. Working on major infrastructure, renewable energy projects & large scale commercial property developments.

 Our Client is a Global construction and engineering group working on some of the most ambitious projects across the building, and renewable energy markets. With multi $bn revenue, over 80,000 staff in 60 Countries.

 The Australian legal is responsible for supporting the various group companies that make up the Australian arm of the business - Across Infrastructure, Commercial Property Development, Renewable Energy and Civil Engineering  

Who we’re looking for

 We’re looking for commercially astute, energetic and hands on construction lawyer to join our team.

Reporting to our General Counsel and working with an in-house team of 4 experienced lawyers, you will provide legal support to our project and commercial teams across the group businesses operating in Australia on a range of activities including contract and operational advice and correspondence, formulating and drafting commercial solutions with the project and commercial teams and, where necessary, dispute avoidance and management.

Your role will involve both ‘back end’ legal work across a range of major civil, building and renewable energy projects and front end tender reviews and contract negotiations.  You will also be required to support health and safety, regulatory, corporate and compliance activities as they arise. While the work load is dynamic and constantly changing we predict there to be an approximate 80:20 / 70:30 split in favour of front end work over back end work.

 

Your professional and personal qualities will ideally include:

  • relevant front end and back end construction experience in the Australian market, with relevant admissions or eligibility for admission

  • an ability to understand the bigger picture and to prioritise multiple tasks arising across multiple business lines and provide pragmatic and timely legal advice within a complex commercial and operational setting

  • demonstrable experience in project advice and dispute resolution, preferably including familiarity with security of payment processes

  • an ability to think and communicate calmly and rationally in a fast-paced environment

  • strong academics and quality training (either in private practice or in house)

  • clear and persuasive written and spoken communication skills

  • negotiation and drafting skills

  • an understanding of issues relevant to construction, including construction and engineering processes, WH&S, insurances

  • familiarity with building, infrastructure and renewable energy markets in Australia (property experience optional)

  • alignment with our corporate commitments to health & safety, innovation and quality

 

Whilst we’re looking to fill a full time role, part time will be considered for the right candidate.
