Our client is a multi billion dollar Energy Company with an enormous CapEx for further underwriting new Energy projects and the growth of the business. This is a hugely exciting time to join the business and the Legal team as they scale up to take on these new challenges.
This Counsel - Operations role is a broad and varied role supporting the largest revenue generating part of the business. Candidates from a varied background will be considered; Commercial Law, Operations, Commercial or Regulatory Disputes, Property & Planning.
Whilst the candidate will not be expected to have 100% of the required technical experience for the role they must be interested in upskilling as required and in having a broad and varied practice.
The Role
The Counsel - Operations is required to manage all legal aspects of the Client’s generation operations business. This encompasses construction projects, procurement, National Electricity Market law and rules, safety and environment regulation, other regulation relevant to the business.
Preparation of effective, legally enforceable contractual documentation for a wide range of commercial engagements including electricity connections, technology MSAs, film and television, access arrangements, maintenance works, engagement of technical experts
Provision of advice on contract management, and managing legal disputes and regulatory investigations
Provide legal advice to the Safety and Environment Teams on their legal and compliance obligations,
Undertake verification and assurance activities to ensure the company and its officers are meeting their regulatory obligations in relation to safety and environment
Advise the Compliance team on Regulatory Obligations relevant to the Generation Business
Undertake verification and assurance activities to ensure the company and its officers are meeting their regulatory obligations.
The ideal candidate
Will have approximately 4-8 PQE and to have worked in a well regarded top or mid tier firm, or have experience working in house with a large and complex business.
An enterprising and solutions focused approach to legal advice and problem solving
Ability to communicate challenging legal concepts in simple terms to a range of stakeholders
Familiarity with safety and environmental legislation
Strength in statutory interpretation
Sound working knowledge of contract and property law
Ability to work independently in an agile, fast paced environment

Salary range $140-180k inc super plus STI of 10% based on experience and fit for the role
