Our Client is a major player in the energy and infrastructure of the National Electricity Market
The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated Legal Counsel to support the client in upcoming major infrastructure projects in NSW and interstate by ensuring the clients operations are conducted within the limits prescribed by law and that its rights are fully protected through the provision of legal counsel and guidance.
The role of the Legal Counsel includes but is not limited to:
Review and negotiate contracts and associated documents for major infrastructure projects and provide the business with front-end advice
Identify key project commercial and legal risks and prepare proposed solutions
Work closely with internal stakeholders on all aspects of the projects
Work closely with external counsel on various aspects of the project
Provide advice on the administration of contracts
Ensure the organisation is in good standing and fulfils its obligations pursuant to relevant legislation and regulation and identify new or proposed legislation
Ensure internal policies, procedures and relevant Commonwealth or State-based licences and authorisations are appropriately interpreted and complied with by the business
Liaise with government officials, departments or tribunals on matters
Be proactive in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Communicate effectively and persuasively with many internal clients and external parties
Assist with the co-ordination and assessment of external legal counsel
Deliver training to various parts of business (as and when required).
Assist with the development and implementation of best practice tools and processes for the Legal Team
Skills & Experience
What we expect from you:
Admitted (or able to be admitted) as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales
Minimum 5-7 years projects experience (preferably gained in private practice and in-house)
Strong commercial drafting, reviewing and negotiating skills
Demonstrated experience working on large infrastructure projects
Highly capable in identifying and understanding commercial and legal risks
Ability to be team-focused and also work independently
Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to liaise, on a daily basis, with internal and external stakeholders
Although not essential, exposure to some other key areas of law (Energy/National Electricity Rules, Property, Planning & Environment and Employment) would be highly regarded
