The Compliance Manager reports to the Head of Compliance and is responsible for leading, managing, and continuously improving the clients enterprise wide compliance management program. This is not a BAU role but rather a key role in a heavily regulated and fast changing organisation
Key accountabilities and responsibilities
Leadership
· Inspire confidence and urgency within the Department and across the Business Unit for the delivery of timely, high-quality service to internal and external customers
· Foster a culture of compliance and continuous improvement
· Continuously drive agility and flexibility in responding to market and industry changes
· Drive a focussed commercial perspective, including an outward focus, awareness of delivery cycle times, and professional completion of work products
· Assist the Head of Compliance with external stakeholder engagement and deliver excellence in this area
· Promote and support organisational objectives around engagement and culture change
· Encourage high performance and collaborative behaviours in a highly matrixed organisation
Management
· Ensure all audit and other reporting and regulatory obligation requirements are dealt with in a timely manner
· Ensure commercial responsiveness and completeness are inherent in all aspects of the business unit’s activities
Compliance
· Educate the business on responsibilities and accountabilities in the compliance management framework and support development in line 1
· Develop and implement the client’s compliance management system through framework, policies and procedures and management of documentation
· Execute ongoing monitoring of compliance performance, reporting and escalation
· Develop and implement compliance training and awareness program to lift compliance culture
· Identify and educate business on its legal and regulatory compliance obligations
· Assist with ensuring the businesses compliance with mandatory obligations, in addition to non-mandatory obligations to which the company has elected to adhere
· Report on compliance internally for Management and Board consumption, including execution of compliance attestation
· Assist the Head of Compliance with the businesses response to instances of non-compliance in liaison with appropriate internal and external stakeholders as required
Stakeholder and customer relationships
· Establish and maintain effective relationships with other groups and coordination of compliance activities with business unit counterparties
· Maintain effective relationships with regulators and external service providers
· Support the Head of Compliance in representing the business on key industry bodies and with key agencies and companies
Additional duties & information
· Engage with the business to embed sustained performance improvement and business process change
· Identify, evaluate and resolve issues affecting professional risk; plan and manage the assignment to minimise risk; review assignments to ensure quality meets or exceeds professional standards; maintain quality assurance over deliverables
Position requirements
· Tertiary qualifications at degree level in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
· Knowledge and understanding of the evaluation and improvement of internal controls and compliance frameworks
· Experience and proven capacity in leading a compliance program of work for a large corporation or utility
· Experience in resource management and business planning
· High level negotiating and influencing skills
· High level written and verbal communication skills
This is a genuine 2ic role where the candidate will be called to step up to deliver reports at board level and to fill in for the Head of Compliance in their absence or when they are involved in Special Projects.
The ideal candidate will have between 6-10 years experience in Compliance or Risk Management
Salary circa $180-200k plus bonus
