Our Client is a company that has over 1 million customers and is valued at over $10bn they have over 1200 employees and are one of the most important Energy companies in the country with a huge portfolio of Renewable Energy assets.

The Role of Corporate Lawyer, Retail is required to advise on all legal aspects of the clients retail business, working in conjunction with the Senior Corporate Lawyer - Retail, and as part of a larger Legal team.

This encompasses giving advice on laws and rules relating to retail businesses, jurisdiction specific rules, consumer law generally and general business activities such as marketing and procurement. The retail businesses underpin our clients revenue base and it is therefore critical that all operations and contractual arrangements are legally compliant and effective.

Full training on the nuances of the retail business and their regulatory environment will be given. So any candidate with 2-6PQE in Commercial Law, IP/Marketing, or Consumer / Competition from a leading firm or in house environment could be a good fit for the role.

Commercial

● Preparation of effective, legally enforceable contractual documentation for procurement, including Standard Form Documents and review of counterparties terms and conditions.

● Provide strategic and technical legal advice on contract law.

● Management of legal disputes with contract counter-parties.

● Delivery Legal Awareness and Training

Compliance & Regulation

Advise Compliance Manager and Compliance Advisers on Regulatory Obligations relevant to the Retail Business.

● Undertake verification and assurance activities to ensure the retail business and its officers are meeting their regulatory obligations

Retail Business Advice

Provide strategic and technical legal advice on laws and regulations that apply to the Group’s retail businesses.

● Management of regulatory investigations.

● Delivery Legal Awareness and Training.

Ideal Candidate

● Bachelor of Laws

● 2-6 years’ experience at mid or top tier law firm or large consumer facing business

● Strong knowledge of legislation and regulations relevant to retail businesses, Australian Consumer Law and Privacy Act , or a background in B2B Commercial Contracts, or IP/Marketing

● Knowledge of retail Energy regulations, or an interest in developing a regulatory advisory skillset in order to advise on the legal aspects of a business subject to complex regulatory frameworks

Energy Industry experience is a nice to have but not a requirement for this role
